Secure email server / secure MTA server overview
ADSS Secure Email Server enables organisations to simply and effectively verify signed emails and/or their attachments. It is a drop-in server-based (Secure MTA Server) product that removes the need to deploy security software (secure MTA Software) to end-users. It also removes the need to re-configure existing mail clients or educate end-users about how to manage and use local security features.
This last point must not be under-estimated as it is hard for end-users to determine whether a signed email or document should be trusted. This trust decision depends on the configuration of their local applications and requires the user to make sense of complex technical messages.
What is ADSS Secure Email Server?
ADSS Secure Email Server is a full secure MTA server that quite literally drops-in to your existing mail infrastructure to seamlessly and automatically verify incoming signed emails and attachments. Signature verification is carried out by making calls to ADSS Server. Policy rules are set up to govern how to route emails that fail to verify or fail to be trusted. Trusted emails are sent on to the intended recipient.

Configurable email server and filter
Enables filter selection policies to be configured that define the type of emails to verify. E.g. the complete signed email and/or emails with signed attachments.
Allows filter selection policies to be configured which identify emails needing to be server side signed based on keywords found in the ‘From’, ‘To’, ‘CC’, ‘Subject’ and/or email body. Email can also be filtered based on a particular type of attachment (e.g. PDF, DOC, TXT etc.).
Integration
ADSS Secure Email Server can also sign emails and attachments which are coming into an organisation and even perform archival services.
Centralized validation policy
Allows you to configure your final trust points and other aspects of signature validation, e.g. how to check the revocation status of certificates using OCSP or CRLs.

USE CASES
Signing outbound emails
Sign all outbound emails and its attachments using a centrally held corporate key:
Request for the signing of email attachments (e.g. PDF, XML, etc.) or for signing of the whole email or hash of the email content
Signed attachment (e.g. signed PDF), or whole signed email (S/MIME) or raw signature

Filtering
Flexible filtering profiles can be set up based on keywords or types of attachments so that only specific emails are processed. Once an email is found to match the filter policy it is then passed to the processing engine “mailet” to get processed according to the defined policy.
Processing of emails and/or attachments
Filtered emails can be signed or verified or archived. Note also these operations can be performed on the attachments (e.g. signing a document which is attached to the email). ADSS Secure Email Server works in conjunction with ADSS Server signing, verification and time stamping service modules to deliver a powerful archiving solution to meet different levels of security. For LTANS archiving the ADSS Archive Server is used.
